About

Family Counseling Center, Inc. is a private, not-for profit corporation receiving money from the Illinois Department of Mental Health & Developmental Disabilities, Department of Children & Family Services, Department of Alcohol & Substance Abuse, local 553 tax levy, gifts and client fees. The nine member Board of Directors is elected from and by the membership of advisory boards, located in each of the three counties served by the organization.

Mission Statement

The purpose for which the corporation is organized is:

  • To improve the quality of life of persons in need of mental health, substance abuse, child welfare, developmental and disability services.
  • To provide services which:
    • are based on identified needs,
    • are strength based,
    • are empowering,
    • are flexible and adapted to meet special needs,
    • are coordinated,
    • utilize family and consumer support,
    • involve consumers in planning,
    • and are racially and culturally sensitive.
  • To reduce the rates of incidence, severity of symptoms and duration of impairment from disabilities.
  • Enable persons to pursue the most independent lifestyle in the least restrictive environment.

The functions of Family Counseling Center, Inc. are:

  • To provide leadership and planning in evaluation community behavioral health needs,
  • To provide for community mental health education and services,
  • To provide follow-up treatment, evaluation and consultation care for consumers discharged from mental health facilities,
  • To provide outpatient substance abuse treatment,
  • To provide child welfare and behavioral health services to children and adolescents,
  • To provide the non-government body that may receive and disburse money for the rendition of behavioral health services for children, adolescents and adults,
  • To provide consultation services to social agencies, physicians, ministers, teachers, and other various members of the community,
  • To provide all services without regard to race, sex, age, creed, national origin, or handicap.
